Operational software for established businesses

When manual work and disconnected systems are holding the business back.

Whisker Tech helps owners, operations leaders, and IT leaders decide what to change, then builds focused software that fits how the company actually works.

Problems worth solving

Manual coordination is consuming the week

Staff rekey the same order, job, customer, or inventory information in several places. Scheduling depends on a spreadsheet maintained by one person. Exceptions are found through email and follow-up calls. Focused software can remove the repeat work and make the next action visible.

Important systems do not share the right information

The CRM, ERP, accounting platform, warehouse tools, or vendor portals each do part of the job, but employees bridge the gaps by hand. An integration can move approved data between them, report failures, and preserve a clear record of what happened.

The company has rules that packaged software cannot express

Pricing, approval, scheduling, fulfillment, or quality decisions may rely on knowledge held by experienced employees. Where that knowledge is stable and genuinely specific to the business, custom software can encode it without forcing the whole operation into a generic product.

The next investment is not obvious

A new system may help, but so might configuring software already in place, integrating two systems, or changing the process before writing code. The Operational Software Assessment provides a standalone recommendation before a larger commitment.

Strong fit

Whisker Tech is built for established B2B companies with a costly operational constraint and a leader who can make decisions. Most do not employ software developers. Charlotte-area work is the priority, with remote US engagements considered when the problem and working relationship are a strong fit.

Operational Software Assessment

A decision before a build

This is a standalone engagement. Over one to two weeks, I learn the current workflow, inspect the relevant systems and data, and identify where time, errors, delays, or risk enter the operation. The proposal states the questions, access, schedule, fixed price, and outputs before work begins.

You receive a current-state workflow, requirements and constraints, findings about the systems involved, viable options, risks, and a written recommendation. That recommendation may be to buy software, build a focused tool, integrate what you already use, change the process, or do nothing for now.

The assessment also frames the business economics: the present cost of the problem, the likely value and operating cost of each credible option, major assumptions, and what would need to be true for an investment to pay back. When delivery is justified, the package includes a phased scope, acceptance approach, and budget estimate that another qualified provider can use.

Assessment
1–2 weeks, currently $5,000–$10,000 fixed price
Defined delivery minimum
$15,000
Current delivery range
$25,000–$75,000 for a defined phase

When assessment is unnecessary

If the result, systems involved, and acceptance checks are already clear, work can move directly to a delivery proposal. A brief initial conversation determines whether that is realistic.

Poor fits

Whisker Tech is not the right provider for staff augmentation, speculative startup products, brochure sites, isolated low-value tasks, emergency rescue without system access, or round-the-clock operational coverage. I also do not take sole responsibility for regulatory compliance, safety-critical operation, or continuous security response. It is a poor fit when an off-the-shelf product plainly solves the problem, no accountable leader can participate, or the business cannot support a $15,000 minimum delivery phase.

Defined delivery

Representative schedule
4–12 weeks
Commercial terms
Fixed price, deposit, and defined milestones
Delivery lead
Direct senior execution
Location
Charlotte-first; strong-fit remote work across the US

The commitment is testable

The proposal names the operational result, included systems and workflows, acceptance examples, milestones, client responsibilities, price, and payment terms. Delivery starts at $15,000; defined phases are currently scoped from $25,000–$75,000.

Changes stay visible

Questions and small clarifications are normal. If new information changes the promised outcome, schedule, or price, I document the effect before proceeding so the business can choose whether to trade scope, timing, or budget.

What a phase can cover

Automate a manual operation: replace a fragile spreadsheet or rekeying process with a controlled workflow, clear responsibility, exception handling, and useful records.

Connect existing systems: move the agreed information between business applications, validate it, surface failures to an operator, and prevent duplicate or silent updates.

Support company-specific decisions: capture stable rules or expert knowledge in software when those rules create real value and cannot be handled well through configuration or a process change.

See how an operational phase is defined

Direct senior execution

I lead the assessment, design the approach, and write the software. There is no handoff from a sales team to junior delivery staff, and subcontractors are not used. Capacity is deliberately limited so active work receives sustained attention.

Access the work requires

The client provides a decision-maker, employees who understand the workflow, lawful access to representative data, system documentation or vendor contacts, and timely access to the relevant applications and environments. Security, compliance, and IT constraints need to be available before they affect implementation.

Ownership without lock-in

After full payment, the client owns the custom deliverables created for the engagement. Whisker Tech retains pre-existing tools and general know-how. Repositories, infrastructure, and vendor accounts are client-controlled where practical, with source, operating instructions, and important decisions kept current so another qualified developer can take over.

Practical maintenance

Handoff covers deployment, routine operation, failure recovery, known limitations, and the agreed transition support. Delivery includes 30 days to correct defects in the agreed work. Ongoing maintenance by Whisker Tech is optional, but the client must designate and fund an appropriate maintenance path. Whisker Tech does not promise 24/7 response or uninterrupted operation.

Vendor requirements

If your company has vendor, insurance, NDA, or security-review requirements, raise them during the first conversation. Technical compatibility with existing systems is confirmed before a proposal.

From bottleneck to decision

  1. Describe what is getting in the way. Share the manual work, system gap, recurring error, or delayed decision and who feels the consequence.
  2. Confirm basic fit. I reply within one business day with current capacity, likely timing, and any focused question needed to judge fit.
  3. Talk with the responsible leader. A no-cost 30-minute call covers the workflow, business effect, systems involved, decision authority, and realistic budget.
  4. Choose the right first commitment. Clear work can receive a defined delivery proposal. Material uncertainty leads to an Operational Software Assessment proposal with named questions and outputs.
  5. Keep the decision independent. Assessment findings belong to the client and remain useful whether Whisker Tech delivers the recommendation or not.
